Atkins vs. South Beach: What are the main differences? They are both plans for a low carb lifestyle, right??

Question: I heard someone saying to a woman OH, Don't do Atkins, it's TERRIBLE! You should do South Beach, that's the good one.

I know people who have done both - and some who have succeeded on both and some who have failed on both.

They both involve cutting carbs out of your life at first and then slowing re-introducing healthy carbs into your diet, right?

Or am I missing something?

The reason I'm so interested is that I and the wife are thinking of trying one of these low-carb lifestyle things - what are the major differences? In just skimming the internet, the only difference I notice is the name of each diet . Anyone who can offer insight or info, please answer.
Answers: Just go to this web site. I do Atkins and I am experienced with it. I know that it is healthy but you decide for yourself. Go to this site that i will post below and you can make up your own mind without biased opinions.
I've Done Atkins
You eat any fresh meat, lots of Bacon's have no carbs, same with salami, but you have to read the back of the product to see how many carbs are there
You get to eat lots of eggs, lettuce, some cheese, only those with no carbs> they are out there, salad dressings that are loaded all the stuff that makes them taste good. >fat
Atkins has a lot of products out there.
I would stay away from the Atkins bars.> my husband and I didn't loose with them>when I needed a snack I would have a cheese string.
It seems pretty limited, but you can have bacon and eggs, steak and eggs.
You can get these books at the library, why buy them your only going to use them once.
You will cheat some in the first 3 days, don't worry about it.
You will loose 15-20 lbs in 2 weeks
I lost 20 Hubby lost 15.
Drink water or crystal light there is a jello with no carbs.
You'll find other things I'm sure
If you take sugar in your coffee >you now use splenda,if you use cream you now use> whipping cream.

After the two or three weeks are up I would go to South beach, I think it is probably better for Mr. & Mrs. body and they have a lot more foods you can eat.
God bless.
Here's the difference: Atkins focuses on severely restricting carbs, but South Beach concentrates on foods that have beneficial carbs. See, your body NEEDS carbs, so cutting them out or way down is harmful to your health. That's why Atkins is not a good diet. South Beach is much better. But hey, you don't have to do South Beach to lose weight. How would you like a diet plan that doesn't require you to count calories or give up everything that you love? Try this:

1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?

2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.

3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”

4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.

5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.

6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.

7. Avoid these as much as possible:

-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)

8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:

-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)

9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.

Good luck!
me and my fiancee are currently on aktins we both like it because there really isn't a portion control it is more just eating meats and greens although we have been getting bored with it lately...

i think southbeach lets you eat more carbs but its carbs that break down easy.
