Working out, eating better...weight not coming off??

Question: hello,
I'm a 28 year old male. I currently weight 235lbs and I'm 5'9 I've been heavyset pretty much since the 3rd grade. I've done weight watchers in the past and had some success with it having lost about 20 lbs. Then I had a bad car crash and gained a lot of weight back. Last year I belonged to a gym and had a personal trainer and I lost a total of 30 lbs getting down to 212lbs. I recently moved and so I no longer belong to a gym or have a personal trainer, but I do have a decent workout facility at my new apartment. After the move I gained weight and went all the way to 250lbs! I've recently dedicated myself to losing weight...I'm eating better than ever before in my life...during the day I eat oatmeal, fruits, yogurt, lean deli meats, and pita chips. At night my meals consist of primarily chicken and brown rice. I walk about 3 miles a night at a fast pace and I lift weights occasionally. I feel like nothing is working! My weight has been stagnent!
Answers: You're doing well, just keep at it!
As for the diet, I don't know if this will apply to you but the chicken and brown rice are a mixture of heavy protein and carbohydrate (though brown rice is by far better than white) and this may result in gas, causing bloating and weight gain.If you try to eat carbs and proteins separately, the food is digested more efficiently as the enzymes released in the stomach won't be competing so much and you might be surprised by the results. So just separate the food you eat mostly during the day, yohurt and meats as protein and the oatmeal and pita chips as carbs etc. Wait 2 hours before having protein after eating carbs and 3 hours vice versa.
As for fruits, it's to eat them only by themselves (half an hour before anything else) as it disgests quicker but will just ferment and rot in the gut if mixed with another food which causes bloating (saying that, fructose can cause bloating on it's own occasionally)
I hope this helps and good luck!
The simple formula for weight loss is as follows: calories in should be less than calories burned. The diet you mentioned seems healthy enough so either cut down portions, or step up exercise. Believe me I know it's easier said than done but if you are committed you will be healthier and fitter.
cut back on the meals, light breakfast, good lunch, light dinner, walk a lot,
Read this carefully & do it yourself sincerely, defenitely you reach the goal ;

Obesity : This is due to :

1. Malfunctioing of Thyroid/Parathyroid gland and late on other endocrine
glands e.g. malfunctioning of Pineal gland leads to retention of water and
excess water in the body and leads to excess fat.

2. Underworking of Sex glands mainly in ladies after delivery of a child.

3. Overeating i.e. taking more calories than required by the body.

C U R E :

Take minimum 3 liters water in a day.

Take Acupessure treatment on all endocrine glands twice daily.

2. During pregnancy and after delivery, take treatment on all the endrocrine
glands. After delivery, increae heat in the body, take the acupressure
treatment.

3. Drink charged gold/silver/copper water daily two glasses reduced from 4
glasses.

4. Drink hot to lukewarm water only during the day and always after meals.

5. In the morning in one glass of hot water add juice of half a lemon and one
tablespooful of honey. Drink it. That will reduec the desire to eat/drink
sweets.

6. Chew food at least 15 minutes

7. Drink 3 to 5 cups of green juice a day adding 1 teaspoonful of health drink
to each cup. This will help to reduce the body very fast WITHOUT ANY SIDE
EFFECTS.

8. Eat plenty of salads adding 100 grams of sprouted cereals like Mung. Also
eat two seasonal fruits + 1 glass of buttermilk.

9. Avoid all food if possible. However, in spite of the above diet, if you
feel very hungry, take preparations of only wheat or only rice. That will
rduce the intake of food. But eat this food only when you are very hungry.

10. Do Pranayam + Ling Mundra + Jogging+Skipping+swimming + Acupressure.

NOTE :

EXCESS WEIGHT :

In the case of females, damage to endocrine glands of Thyroid/Parathyroid is very common. Moreover, their Sex glands are damaged during pregnancy or delivery because of worry. And so when these two endocrine glands do not function properly, these women start putting on weight more around the waist. Because of damage to these two endocrine glands, sometimes even Pineal gland is damaged and so there is more retention of water in the body, which is also one of the reasons for excess weight.

When such patients come, their obese figure obviously shows their problem which can be confirmed by pressing on point nos. 8, 11 to 15 and no. 3. At this time of checking, it is advisable to check other endocrine glands too, so you can locate any further damage, if any. for cure, first it is necessary to treat these two endocrine glands for 15/20 days and only then start dieting and treatment on not only these two endocrine glands but also on the other endocrine glands. I have treated many cases, where the weight loss was from 2/3 kgs to 10 kgs per month. Once the weight has reached normal then ask the patients to continue Acupressure treatment and they will be able to maintan their weight and pleasing figure.

Awww, you sound alot like me. But, Im a 28yr old female who cant lose the weight too! The only thing that EVER worked for me was not healthy. I cut my calories in half and lost 80some lbs in like 6months! I've since then gained EVERY lb. back but 15:(
Have you had your thyroid checked yet? You could have an underlying health problem preventing you from losing weight. You should see your Dr. to discuss your weight problems with him/her.
Back to the eating healthy part, you might be eating healthier, but how much are you eating? It doesn't matter if you eat healthier if you are eating more, because the calories are what matters. If you aren't already, keep a log/ journal of the foods you take in and count your calories. You can go to the site and sign up and use their journal to make enteries and count calories and log your weight. I use it faithfully and I've lost about 20lbs since the end of June.

Keep the Faith! You'll get there someday:) Good luck!!!
maybe you've hit a plateau or your body has adjusted to your workout regime. try mixing it up a bit and lift weights a bit more. make sure your intake is not more than you burn off, coz if it is, even if you eat healthy you won't lose weight.

perhaps try a detox/kick-start diet. the kekwick diet [link below] is often a good way to kick-start and get some motivation - only 3-4days to see results.

good luck
I have lost a total of 120 pounds so far.
I lost 105 pounds in my first 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Good LUCK!
