Amino acids from food??
Question: I'm sure you know the basic situation - our body can make 12 of the 20 amino acids and we have to consume the other 8 from food. I know that food producers lace certain foods with the acids, like cereal and turkey, but how else do we know if they're in the food, if the acid is not a well known one like triptophane? (or however you spell it?) I know that some cereal boxes say contains all 8 essential amino acids! but what other labels exist?
Answers: Amino acid content is not allowed to be printed on food labels, according to the FDA.
Food should not need to be laced with amino acids. They are a part of many natural foods. As amino acids are the building block of protein, the protein content of the food should give you a good starting point.
If you have a well balanced diet you should be able obtain all the essential amino acids needed. In fact even vegetarian are able to combine different vegetable to complete their protein requirement.
