Severe lack of diet willpower!??
Question: I have been wanting to lose weight for so long that it has become part of my life. My problem is my willpower. Its practically non-existant. I want this bad, but have no luck saying no to food when im hungry. I need some SERIOUS help and advice here.
Answers: i have the exact same problem - i go on moments when i do have enormous willpower but literally 1 day later im back. it too has become part of my life and i realize that i have wasted way too much time worrying about this wehn i could be doing something else. ill try my best to help you!!!
What I try to do is oput myself in situations where i cant get ahold of food. At school (high school) i dont have a lunch period so that helps in that i cant buy anything from the lunch line. Right after school i make myself go to the gym and just so i dont cheat, i dont bring any money with me for a snack machine ,etc. if i work out for 1hr i get home around 4:30 and then take a shower - then its 5ish and its okay to eat again. then i set a rule that i cant eat after i leave the table. If you find urself really wanting food, do a couple sit ups right before - or look at urself in the mirror - and decide if you really want to eat.
you also have to keep 'ur eyes on the prize' i know its cliche but its really true. I dont know if ur in the situation where you can put pictures of urself or people whose body u want to have to help keep you motivated around ur house but if you can i would suggest it!
Furthermore, it is important to eat HEALTHY - so you cant say okay i had a doughnut, ice cream, and chips and maxed out on calories there and just not eat anything else. you have to eat what is good for your body. I suggest: yogurt, salad (home-made and watch the cheese and salad dressing!), green tea, water, chicken, tuna, (any fish), oatmeal, granola, green beens, apples, blueberries (which are said to be the healthiest fruit), WHOLE GRAIN bread, etc. but remember that even if you are eating healthy, you still have to make sure you are watching your portions. Also, remember you can't eat what you don't buy.
I would avoid: sugars, soda, processed foods, red meat, any heavy starches (watch the potatoes and rice).
Do not starve yourself- i have a friend who did that and when she started eating again she gained twice the amount back which is really bad!!!!
I have also found these sites helpful:
www.runnersmagazine.com
www.sparkpeople,com
www.ivillage.com
I really like sparkpeople because they have you list foods that you have, then you write down your goals and then they give you meal plans etc so you get the right amount of carbs, protein, fats etc.
I really do wish you the best of luck! i know its really hard- im going through it right now too and have been really good for about a week now so im really excited about that - it has been a major step for me.
It is the first three days that are the hardest to get through. After you get through those you can do ANYTHING!!!!!! If you want anything bad enough you will get it - and i know that you will loose what ever weight you may need to. you are a strong person and you cant let something as silly as food conquer you ( i always thought that was kinda funny :) )
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I eat when im hungry, which is often, just eat somethig healthy. Make veggies & salad your friend, bread & pasta is not the enemy & if its wrapped in plastic or leaves an orange stain on your fingers dont eat it. Give up soft drink, drink milk & water.
Are you really hungry when you eat? Or are you mistaking boredom for hunger? Or is it social eating? Try some of this:
--Keep a stash of Special K or South Beach Diet snack bars (the 100-120 calorie ones) handy (in your purse, car, pantry, etc) for when you think you're hungry. They come in some great flavors now and are very filling.
--Learn proper portions and balanced meals. Are you restricting the type of food you eat on your diets? That could be part of your problem. Put your meals on the bread plate so your eyes trick your brain into thinking you're eating more. Avoid all you can eat buffets, and remember the inside of your stomach is only about the size of your fist (yes, that's true no matter how big or small you are).
If you try all of this (and stick with it) for about 2 weeks and you still can't feel like you're full, see your doctor. You could have a more serious problem. You may want to see your doctor anyway for a referral to a nutritionist. Good luck!
