Is down syndrome sex linked/recessive/or dominant??


Answers: none of the above. Down syndrome occurs when the creation of sperm or egg cells (meiosis) does not occur properly. an extra chromosome (#21) is inadvertently left inside the cell. you and I have two of these chromosomes, (one from dad and one from mom) but a person with downs has three. It does not follow any pattern of mendelian inheritance. It's more common in older mothers since the egg cells used aren't quite as high of quality as when she was younger.
