What happens if i take an expired hydrocodone??
Question: i have a prescription for hydrocodone for my back and i havent needed them for a while but my back has been hurting lately and i dont know if taking expired hydrocodone is bad..
Answers: I think from the range of answers you have gotten here from saying it could become stronger and toxic to saying it will not be as effective and will become weaker mean that you should just call your doctor's office and ask them.
How expired? A few days, months, a year? It won't hurt you, but the longer it's been expired, the weaker it will be.
If it isn't like ten years old, you will be fine. Some drugs do lose potency after time, and some things (like liquids--especially those that have to be rerigerated-- and vitamins) should be thrown out after expiration, because they can spoil. But most of the expiration dates are just there because drug companies are required by law to put them there and they dont' mean much.
hmmm my wife is an RN. she says sometimes certain medicines can get more toxic over time, but for the most part it is a just a ploy from the industry to sell more drugs because people should fear the expiration date. makes sense. an herb is illegal in this country, but pills that mega gargantuan sized companies make (and freely advertise) are ok... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It depends on what the expiration date is on the bottle that you are taking them from. Your pharmacy should be able to tell you how far passed the expiration date you could take the product.
I wouldn't take them passed three months or so.
do NOT take expired meds (a week or two is probably ok)
Some increase in potency, some decrease, some do neither. Some can go bad .
If you need a new script, go get one. Its not worth overdosing or otherwise poisoning yourself with old meds
unless its years old it should be ok. expired meds just lost
there potency thats all.
The longer medication sits, the more toxic it will become.and taking any will do more harm than good.call your physician and see about getting a new script.
been there done that expired medicine gets stronger not weaker so be prepared to get knocked out of your seat if you take it
