I need help, I am a pack rat, can anyone help me.??

Question: Need help, I can't get myself to throwaway books, and financial records from day one. I tell myself that some day I may need them. Is there a website somewhere that that I can go to. I feel depressed just thinking about it. Is anyone going through this same experience and how do you handle this problem.
Answers: Most everyone that I know is the same way. You can still keep things just make them into smaller piles. With financial records, you only really want to keep receipts from about 5 years back. You could put these receipts into a plastic bag and smash it down to make it really small. Put these into a box and label it receipts 2002-2006 and put it in the closet. You don't need to keep old bills and stuff like that, you can shred them and get rid of them. If there is stuff from high school/ college that you want to keep just take out the most important stuff and get rid of the rest. Put the stuff that you want to keep either in a book or box and store it. Clothes - if you have not worn it in a year then you don't need it, so donate it to goodwill or something like that. Books, if you don't use them then you don't need them, take them to a bookstore and try to get a few bucks for them. There are plenty of ways to simplify your life and you need to start with the number one rule, if you don't use it, get rid of it. You'll feel much better once you have half of your stuff gone. Hope this helps you.
Get someone to come over and help you. I did that. It made a big difference.
All right. Try this, get file cabinets for important papers you want to keep and a shredder for old papers that are not needed anymore. Get big trash bags for everything that gets shredded. Now get a few big boxes for everything else and label the box so you know whats inside and stack them. All this will be time consuming. Start with the books and then the papers. Spend a few hours every couple of days working on it or when you get free time. The sooner you start the sooner you'll finish.
It is hard to throw stuff away I find that I get very attached to inanimate objects and I find change very hard the only advice I can give you and of course it might not be right is to bite the bullet, And then try and get in the habit of throwing things away on a regular basis like every couple of weeks and then it won't all build up and you'll get used to it and it won't be so over whelming.
