I seem to remember reading somewhere that Einstein was self-harmer... Am I imagining this or is it a fact...??
Question: I'm helping a friend with a SH/SI website...
Can anyone think of any famous self harmers that we can use?
(The site is designed to support and help, NOT idolise either celebrity or selfharm)
Thank you
Answers: I've never read or heard that Einstein was a self-mutilator. He was slow to learn to talk, not speaking much until the age of 3 but reluctance to speak and inability to do so are entirely different His early history as revealed in family letters indicated that he was very creative by age 2 and his comprehension was quite advanced and his language skills by age 3 were quite well developed. He was a shy child and wasn't as outgoing as other children but more reflective
His family was financially and emotionally supportive providing him with a stimulating environment wherein he was able to pursue his varied interests... music, math, science and later, humanitarianism, he had a happy homelife which if you add all these facets together does not provide the usual background for someone who self-mutilates.
During the time he stayed with relatives in Germany he wasn't pleased with his prospects and was depressed because the German educational system was strict and uncompromising and add to that the German military requirement at the time made for an unpalatable situation. He executed a plan to get out of the military requirement and the country by faking ill health so that he could get a certificate from his family Doctor verifying it so he could go to his family in Italy.
He was a pacifist and managed to avoid military service in Germany and in Switzerland for medical reason... varicose veins, flat feet. So is cutting a possibility? Still not enough data to confirm that he was ever a cutter or would have considered it. Given his outlook on life I would say that didn't happen.
It is true and just goes to show that no human being is perfect. There seems to be less and less room for people to be different everyone gets sent to a councillor to be made perfect or someones idea of it. I am sorry for your friend but at least they have a careing friend like you
It is true.
Did u know that he also had dyslexia!
In a 1995 BBC television interview Princess Diana revealed to the world that she was a self-injurer. She said that she had cut her arms and legs, explaining, You have so much pain inside yourself that you try and hurt yourself on the outside because you want help.
no it's true. he even had a low IQ!!
he was a slow developer as a child but soon came on. he did not selfharm
I was researching for an English paper on the writer Franz Kafka ( The Trial, The Metamorphosis ) and read alot that pointed to his being self-abusive. He would starve himself (really, seemed like he had the makings of an anorexic, I came across this info when researching for a paper about his short-story A Hunger Artist ). I didn't find info that he was a cutter, but he wrote about having fantasies of cutting his body up into pieces and feeding the pieces to his dog. ..... I believe Johnny Depp was a cutter, also, so those are two people you can look up before you list on your site.
Yes he was. It just show's that even the most regarded and intellegant of peole still have feelings. That we all find different ways to express them. Wether it's sociably accepted or not..
It depends on which context you mean by self-harming. We all have the abilty to self-harm to some extent, smoking, drinking cutting etc etc.
The most famous for me is Sid Vicious.
Good luck with the site and your research. :)
