What is obsessive compulsive disorder??
Question: PLEASE DONT COPY AND PASTE A DEFINITION OR INFORMATION FROM A WEBSITE. I want you to define it based on what you know...
Answers: I have OCD. It's where you ha ve a lot of obbession's. The obbessions make me feel really anxious like I'm giving a speech or I've been standing in line for an hour. To get rid of the feeling I do a lot of compulsions. Which are just acts that take away the stress and make everything feel ok. If I don't do the compulsion then I feel like something bad will happen. Like it will be my fault for someone dying, even though I know how ridiculus that sounds.
I have a lot of compulsions. But everyone is different and their are varying degrees. It's very very stressfull. It's hard to imgin how some people don't think it's real. Some examples of compulsions (at least for me) are things like not stepping on cracks, doing everything in threes and fives, choosing the left side of everything, closing letter tops, and reaping actions until their perfect. But theres many many more. I hope this helps sorry it's so long. But a simple definition doesn't really exsist.
PS: A lot of people say that everyone has a little bit of OCD. This is def. NOT true. The difference is huge. Everyone has particular things or obbessions but that's a very very different thing.
Having lived with a lady who was diagnosed with this disorder I know how a person reacts (not all persons may react in the same manner) when they are diagnosed with an obsessive compulsive disorder.
* The person may wash her hands many times a day...at times until they are raw.
* The person may repeat words or sentences many many times within a short period of time.
* A person may lock or unlock the car several times just to make sure it is OK.
* A person may place something in a single spot over and over again until the person moves on to another project.
* A person may buy and sell houses over the period of several years merely because buying them is fun to this person. My sister-in-law buys and sells houses every two years....so far she is up to 7. She cannot stop even though she is losing money.
* and there are many other examples of obsessive compulsive disorder. I think you get the idea. It is when a person does something over and over again for no reason. The compulsion can be focused on straightening out photos in a room and the person will go around and do so...even if the room isn't his.
OK, here are two cases I had observed. I knew the persons who suffered from OCD. One would check and re-check every window and door before going to bed, then will get up and check again and again. This may be repeated many times. The second one was a stranger case. He worried endlessly about someone stealing his personal details, so he kept rehearsing in his mind whether he had really shredded stuff, made sure the immigration officer did not secretly take a photo of his passport ... you can imagine the rest. Both eventually recovered, took a long time, not weeks but many months. There were no obvious triggers for their illness.
What I always say is that everyone has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) just some more than others. Often times we can be obsessive or compulsive about things.
For example, whenever I get something new I am obsessive about keeping it in good shape as well as being very careful with it and I often do this compulsively.
OCD is used to describe a condition wherin a person becomes obsessive over something, and they often react compulsively. Acting compulsively means doing something to help reduce the feeling of obsessiveness about whatever it is.
