Any eye doctors out there? contact experts??
Question: i have had contacts for over a year now....
for the first 6 months, i wroe my contacts at least 4 times a week, and it was fine, it just always took me a while to put them in
then about 3 months ago or so, after the summer, whenever i tried to put contacts in, after like 2 hours my eyes turned realy red,
so i stopped wearing contacts except for parties and stuff, and i use visine for red eyes, and that hardly works, and i wash y hands avd everything
how do i prevent my eyes from turning red and itchy and burny???
wats wrong? o btw i have an astigmatism so the the contacts are toric (purevision)
and i use optifree solution, always have, but have used 2 different solutions for one day each when sleeping over at friend's houses and forgetng to bring solution
also, my eye doctor told me not to wash my contact case out with water, only solution, and after 8 months of using contacts, i washed them out with water a few times. Could this have anything to do with it? plz help!!
Answers: You need to talk to your eye doctor about this. PureVision contacts are made of a popular new material called silicone hydrogel. This new material allows much more oxygen to the eye than traditional hydrogels, and works great for most people, allowing more comfortable contacts for longer wearing times. I wear PureVision lenses for 14-16 hours without ever hardly feeling them. However, a very small percentage of people cannot tolerate silicone hydrogel lenses, and have problems with them, such as you are describing. These people do better in traditional hydrogel materials very often.
All of this is what your doctor will be able to figure out.
Hi,
Don't worry about using water to wash the case, that's not the issue.
They might not be fitting your eyes correctly, so get that checked first. That will definitely cause irritation. Also make sure you're buying the best ones (most breathable) that you can. The ones you replace every month or two weeks or even daily are the best.
You also might have allergies you're not aware of, so wash your hands often and try not to touch your eyes.
Good luck!
You should definitely go see your doctor again. Eyes are not something you want to fool around with.
I am not a doctor, but I have worn contacts for over 20 years now. A few things jump out at me when you describe your situation.
1 - you must clean your contact case. I do not think the solution rinse is enough! I use very hot tap water every night. Also I buy a new contact case every few months.
2 - the solution may be irritating your eyes. It did for me! And it didn't do it right away, it was after using the stuff for a while. I am to the point that I can only use plain old saline solution.
3 - get disposable lenses so you can throw them out every so often. They do make these for astigmatism now.
