Is the act of moving a long-sighted lens further away from the eye effectively the same as making the lens....?

Question: ... more or less powerful ??
ie. My spectacle lens is +0.25 dioptre sphere and if I move it 6cm further away than normal my vision improves, am I effectively adding more dioptres or removing dioptres in doing this?
Answers: yes ,this acts as you add more power to your lens, this means your lens power is less than requirement. You need a more powerful lens about +1.00 DS.
Yes you are- I run into this kind of problem with young ppl that want to wear their glasses halfway down their nose- this usually has to be explained to them that teh Doctor did not Rx them that way.
Moving a plus (long-sighted) lens away from the eye gives the effect of it getting stronger, so you are adding to the power of the lens, the effect on a +0.25 lens will be very minimal, you may just need an extra +0.25 possibly.
