Contact lenses??
Question: Hi. I have glasses, and i have really bad vision, around -5 or -6. I was just wondering, if i got contacts, would they be really thick? & If I don't like eye drops, would putting contacts in be hard for me? I really don't like eye drops.
Thanks =]
Answers: no they won't be thick
learning to put in contacts is like learning to ride a bike.
some ppl learn quickly others not.
most ppl find it hard at first but then do it easily.
yes you will need to put drops in your eyes.
if that's big thing for you it might be an additional hurdle.
contacts take some time and effort but it's nice to not have to wear glasses when you don't want too.
they are expensive and you must keep them clean to avoid damaging your eyes.
No, the contacts are not really thick - Theyre just as thin as other contacts. My eyes are worse than yours and I wear them all the time. Contacts are thin, very flexable clear things that fit on your eye perfectly. Actually, contacts are BETTER for people with worse eyes because when the perscription is that close to your eye, it gradually improves your eye slight. Slowly, but surely. I dont like eye drops either. Putting Contacts in is not difficult, but it can make you nervious at first. It didnt bother me because I can touch me eye with no problems. Honestly though, do you think all contact wearing people are like that? I should say not! The doctor teaches you ways to put them in and take care of them - it will be fine.
However, there is one very serious drawback to contacts when you have such bad eyes. You have to be VERY responsible with your contacts or you will get Neovascular Disease. This is when the contact rubs off the cells on the surface of your eye, allowing the cornia to be less guarded. When this happens, bacteria your body doesnt naturally fight off will get directly on your cornia, forcing blood vessels in your eye to the center for more oxygen. This causes bleeding and swelling veins behind your eyes. It makes it works when you have a high perscription because if your eyes become that unhealthy, the strong perscription directly on your eye will make them much worse. So, to avoid all of this, follow a few rules:
-Dont sleep in your contacts (Prevents oxygen from reaching your eye, the lead cause for Neovascular Disease)
-Only wear them 10-12 hours per day or less.
-Wash your hands before putting them in or taking them out. (if you dont, all the bacteria on your hand transfers to your contact onto your eye - also promiting Neovascular Disease)
-Always keep them in a clean container, full of sterile contact fluid.
A lot of these things will probably make you nervious about getting contacts but dont worry. Its not nearly as bad as it sounds. It wont be hard for you to keep your eyes healthy.
If you are wearing clear contacts, no, people cant tell unless you tell them, they know you, or if they look very closely. And yes, sometimes the contact will pop out because either your eyes are very dry, youve been wearing them too much, you slept in them, or you have astigmatism. But dont worry, they have many different kinds of contacts for anything you may have and your doctor will know what kind to put you in.
What's wrong with your glasses??? In case if your power is increasing y not refer to your doc and ask for lense implant. That's cool. Atleast cooler than a contact lense.
Look! I am not a good advoacte of contacts so the guys advoacting it may perhaps be cheesed, coz of my one negative commet here. But you got my message alright!!!!????
No, they are thin. Not realy, it really depends ont he user itself.
I have a -5.50/-5.75 prescription and am wearing my first set of contacts right now. They don't feel thick at all, and they don't look thick when I hold them on my fingertip. They also feel great in my eyes, I dunno if I'm just amazed because I'm so used to glasses or what... but I feel almost like I have naturally perfect vision- can't even tell they're in. :-D
I wear contacts and I'm at -6.50 and -6.75. I've been wearing contacts for almost 20 years and they are not any thicker now than when I first started and my vision was better. In fact, the disposable contacts are better than the extended wear ones. The only way to find out if you'll like contacts is to try them.
the contact lenses will be thick but not thisk enough for you to feel them on. contact lenses are easy to insert and remove once you get the hang of it. contact lenses are not usually visible on eye especially brands like acuvue and focus. baush and lomb are slightly more visible with their blue tint.
if you are worried of lenses falling out of you eye, go consult an optometrist for contact lens fitting to find the lens that best fits your eye. lenses can drop out of your eye if it is too loose.
I work for an optometrist, and no the contacts will not be thick. If you don't like eyedrops then contacts would be hard for you to adjust to. It takes practice to get them in and out of your eyes quickly. If you could wear them instead of your glasses, life would be alot easier. When I wore glasses, I was constantly cleaning them, and only had a small vision field to see through. With contacts you can see everything. I think they are better, but yes they will take some getting used to since it's your first time.
Hi I wear contact lenses -2. I started wearing contacts about 7 months ago and first of all you have to go for an assesment where they teach you to put your contacts in and wont let you go till you know how to do it properly. Its harder than you think but you have an hour to practice. First of all you start off wearing the thin daily ones and then you can progress onto the thick monthly ones which they say are easier but I still wear the daily ones. You only have to use eye drops if you have an infection and that happened to me once but it clears up within a few days. I sometimes use Bright Eye eyedrops because your eyes can feel a bit tired if you wear contacts for so long, it doesnt sting at all and you can put them in after you put your contacts so you cant even feel it.
Contacts are deffo better than glasses because I felt so embarassed in glasses even though they were designer and its better to get used to contacts because you can wear them out and about shopping and with frends and everywhere, including sport becaue you cant wear glasses in sports. Also I used to get bad headaches wearing glasses but never get them with contacts. People cant tell you're wearing contacts unless they like stare into your eyes lol and lets just say theyre alot less obvious than wearing glasses. They dont pop out of your eye unless you dont put them in properly or if you rub your eye but you can always put a new one in. Hope this helped x
