Question: Yesterday morning I woke up and my left eye was painful and very irritated. It hurt when I shut my eye or when it was open so there was no relief.

I took a benadryl and a claritin and today it feels ok but my roommate has whatever this is now.

It is only affecting one eye on each of us so I can't figure out what it is. Even heavily medicated I can feel that there's something weird going on with my eye. It looks slightly bloodshot and It feels as though there's something in it.

Any ideas of what it could be?

Answers: Could be pink eye. Bacterial and viral pink eye is contagious but allergic pink eye is not.
So you probably have bacterial or viral infection and gave it to your roommate.
