Mirena/IUD Birth control??

Question: I had Mirena inserted in february, six weeks after my baby was born.
My last menstration was in september and in october I started lactating(very little) and it hasn't stopped.
I took a pregnancy test at the end of october and it was negative. I know it is normal to skip periods with Mirena.

My question is : Is it normal to lactate while using Mirena?and has this happend to you?

I checked the Mirena website and could not find anything about this.
Answers: This may not be related to the Mirena. My children are 3 years apart. With my first child I pumped for a while but when I totally stopped I never really dried-up . By the time I got pregnant with my 2nd child, I had still been lactating (over 1 1/2 years). After my 2nd, when I was done pumping (which only lasted 2 weeks), my doctor told me to make sure the breasts are not stimulated AT ALL, until you are totally dried up (months!). That includes any squeezing to check if you're dried up or not. I finally did dry up.
I have had Mirena for over a year. I haven't had a real period since having it inserted. I haven't had any nipple discharge like you describe. Is it possible it could be left over stuff from having the baby?

I suggest calling your Dr's office and discussing this with the nurse just to be safe.
I have had an IUD for little over a year and I have never had that. You need to talk to your doctor about it, maybe get a blood test done to rule out pregnancy. IUD's are very effective but not always.
